I have been staring at a blank wall for over a year now. Oh, every few months out of a sheer desperation I would stick a single picture up, maybe two. Like sad little islands in a sea of boring they would sit there, until out of sheer desperation once again I would swap them out for other things. You would think as someone who loves to paint and loves color, I would have a natural eye for decorating. You would be wrong. I am hopelessly lost when it comes to figuring out the ins and outs of how to make a home look pretty.
It wasn’t until this week that it dawned on me that this monster of a wall needed some drastic action. So I am proud to announce that the floral didn’t end up going in my bedroom after all! But first things first….
The Long Awaited Floral
As promised, I have started on my long-awaited floral, here are some pictures of that. It’s not as pretty as the ones on Pinterest, but it is a start. I was shooting for the Scandinavian look which I adore.
I was surprised with how much I loved the orange and the green. It reminds me of rusted out copper. Whenever you find a fun combination like that you need to do at least more than one so….TA-DA! I did a little doodly fun painting during one nap time. I
probably could do more on it, but I also love the unfinished loose look to it. I feel like it fits the painting..
The Gallery Wall
I have toyed with the idea of a gallery wall for a long long time. I loved the look of them and the idea of them, but if the thought of finding a place for one picture was difficult, the thought of finding a place for 15+? Now, that was paralyzing. So I called in the experts.
Thank goodness that I have a sister-in-law and a niece who are very talented in this department. Between the three of us I think we created something to be proud of. I am IN LOVE with it. The room desperately needed the color and I needed the inspiration. Almost every painting is mine, with a few special exceptions. The big floral in the middle I got at Goodwill (so sentimental, I know). The one with boats is one I bought in a market in Haiti when I was on a mission trip there, and the one of the little pot on the top was done by Jacob.
So there is just a little glimpse into what all we have been up to. I’m telling you there is more to come! With the gallery wall right in my very own living room, I can’t help but be inspired every time I lay on my couch. 😉
Nice Work!
